Juvenile Justice case management
Today, significant research and funding has served as the catalyst for juvenile justice reform and the rehabilitative model across the country, where many juvenile justice agencies are using similar risk and needs assessments, standardizing information (criminogenic and non-criminogenic needs) to inform a case management planning, and implementing evidence-based programming. While the programming and practices have evolved and become more streamlined, for many juvenile justice agencies their information systems have not; in fact, many are still grappling with paper records.
Where is juvenile justice going?
With increased quantitative research about what works in juvenile justice programming, the juvenile justice field is poised to further integrate services. Currently, national juvenile justice funding is focusing on two primary areas, including, prevention and aftercare/reentry, and incorporating evidence-based practices.
FEI’s WITS Juvenile Justice Solution bridges evidence-based practices and state-of-the-art technology into an integrative, comprehensive case management tool that identifies and tracks the progress of those functional areas of need for each youth.

JUVENILE JUSTICE RISK AND NEEDS ASSESSMENT
The Juvenile Justice Risk and Needs Assessment is an evidence-based tool that can be adapted based on the experience of any state. The primary function of the needs assessment is to identify criminogenic needs that are dynamic and can be targeted with appropriate interventions. Protective factors are identified to assist staff in developing a strength-based approach to addressing needs. Responsivity is addressed in the assessment by assuring that a youth’s relevant characteristics are recorded and stored in a manner that allows staff to easily access and understand individual strengths and needs.
- Integrates with current delinquency legacy systems
- Assess youth on delinquency and 10 other relevant domains
- Produce static and dynamic risk levels
- Assess protective factors
- Recommend best placement for youth
Needs identified in the Juvenile Justice Risk & Needs Assessment can flow directly into treatment planning, which fosters program integrity by requiring staff to develop clear intervention goals that address specifically identified needs, and then monitor the implementation of the intervention plan. These are then integrated into the case dashboard for overall planning during the youth’s time under Juvenile Services supervision.
