FEI Systems was engaged by SAMSHA to build the CONTINUUM™ software for The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). Today FEI Systems partners with ASAM and continues to host, support, and maintain CONTINUUM for ASAM and the CONTINUUM WITS data entry front end. In addition, under ASAM’s aegis FEI Systems is a CONTINUUM Authorized Distributor and the only company who can provide access to CONTINUUM WITS.
Currently, this partnership between FEI and ASAM provide two electronic tools to the community: the full ASAM CONTINUUM™ assessment, as well as the CO-Triage® Screener.
CONTINUUM™
CONTINUUM™ is a computerized structured interview and clinical decision support system (CDSS) for use by clinicians. It provides the entire treatment team with a computer-guided, structured interview for assessing and caring for patients with substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions. It conducts a full biopsychosocial assessment that addresses all six dimensions of the ASAM Criteria. The decision engine uses research-quality questions (including tools such as the ASI (Addiction Severity Index), CIWA (Clinical Institute Withdraw Assessment) and CINA (Clinical Institute Narcotic Assessment) instruments) to generate a comprehensive patient report which includes a recommended level of care determination.
Today, more than 20 years of research validate ASAM’s criteria, representing more than $8 million worth of investment. As a result, more than 30 U.S. states have endorsed or require the ASAM Criteria for treatment placement and/or planning purposes.
The CONTINUUM™ assessment is repeated as needed throughout treatment to guide treatment as well as discharge planning. Two structured reports are provided upon the completion of each assessment.

CO-TRIAGE® SCREENER
CO-Triage® is a quick referral tool for alcohol and drug use problems, and was designed for use by non-clinical staff to provide a preliminary level of care recommendations. Its 21 questions guide users in reviewing substance use problems as well as major medical and psychological conditions, according to ASAM Criteria Dimensions.
